Foundation Involved In Uganda Charity Holds Fundraiser For Scholarships

The group’s mission is to partner with disadvantaged communities and individuals in Uganda to creatively support unique opportunities for wholesome human and economic development.

Empowering Development Alternatives (EDA) will host its Launch Party and Fundraiser on Saturday, August 28, from 6-10pm, at Studio, 48 West 20th St. between 5th and 6th Ave.

The cost is $30 per person and all proceeds from the event go to the Leaders of the Future education project, which supports programs in the East African country of Uganda. The event will feature music and dance performance, an art display –exhibiting the donated work of EDA supporters– an art auction, food, drinks and raffle prices.

EDA is a 501c3 non-profit organization based in New York and operating in Uganda. The group’s mission is to partner with disadvantaged communities and individuals in Uganda to creatively support unique opportunities for wholesome human and economic development.  The group targets projects that generate sustainable income, support education and promote health care.

“I believe that poverty should not be viewed merely in economic terms, but as social, political and spiritual powerlessness,” says Bonnie Nezaj, the founder. “Our vision is to strive for development alternatives committed to empowering people in their own communities, and to mobilize them to have an active role in directing their own destinies.”

The current project Leader’s of the Future assists orphans in disadvantaged households in Jinja, Uganda, realize their full potential through access to quality secondary education and to improve their standard of living.

The objective of this project is to provide scholarships for 20 students.
