Over 30 middle school students from South Korea were in Pineville this week for Camp USA. The program is an exchange organized by Baptist churches in Cenla and in Korea.

The students stay busy experiencing pieces of American and Louisiana culture. On Wednesday, Philadelphia Baptist Church Horseshoe Drive hosted a talent show.

The students enjoyed performing for their crowd of supporters. They considered it a way to say, “thank you.”

"We have 25 churches that cooperate in some way,” said Tim Hisaw, the director of Camp USA. “Either hosting an event, or host homes, or providing a meal, or giving of their vacation bible school offering to make Camp USA happen."

After their impressive performances, the students all seemed to agree that the most special part of their experience so far has been getting to know a host family.

“They just welcome us with a really great love," said Jang Jaeju, an older counselor who traveled with the students.

Camp USA’s Christian message seems to really come across—even in English.

"We just came to know about Jesus and church, but in English, it's a different experience,” said Jang. “You can practice and practice or try English on your own. It's very helpful for the children."

Some of these students have never been to the United States, and others have participated in Camp USA for a few years now. Most returning students said the thing that keeps them coming back is simple.

"I was here last year and I have good memories,” said Ivy. “I want to make more memories."

The local Korean church is also active in welcoming the students and supporting Camp USA.

The South Korean group will leave Pineville on Sunday and travel to Ponchatoula before heading to Toronto Canada.
