More than two decades after they last crossed paths, Trey is ready to see his Sex and the City love Charlotte again.
Kyle MacLachlan, who played Charlotte’s former husband Trey MacDougal on the HBO comedy, is open to reprising his role on the Max sequel series And Just Like That…, he tells People magazine: “I think it’d be really fun to return, yeah, I do.”
He confirmed that the show “had reached out” to him to play Trey before, but “I just felt that the idea that they had… I wanted a little bit more to it. I wanted the relationship that we had to be a little deeper.” Still, MacLachlan hasn’t ruled out a return: “Maybe they’ll come back with another idea… I’d be game.”
MacLachlan joined the cast of Sex and the City in Season 3, with Trey sweeping Kristin Davis’ Charlotte off her feet and marrying her in a lavish Scottish-themed wedding. But difficulties in conceiving a child led to a rift that wrecked the pair’s seemingly picture-perfect marriage, and they split up for good in Season 4. Charlotte later married her divorce attorney Harry Goldenblatt, played by Evan Handler, and they’re still married on And Just Like That.
Davis revealed recently on her Are You a Charlotte? podcast that she wanted MacLachlan to return on And Just Like That… because there’s still something “unfinished” between Charlotte and Trey: “I’m hoping that we can kind of revisit [that].” But she said MacLachlan had turned down the earlier offer because “I think he just didn’t want there to be kind of a sad note to the end.”
And Just Like That… reunites Sex and the City stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Davis in their roles as Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte, with Kim Cattrall making a cameo in Season 2 as Samantha. Other Sex and the City stars have appeared as well, including Chris Noth (as Mr. Big), John Corbett (as Aidan), Mario Cantone (as Anthony) and more. Last airing in August 2023, And Just Like That… is slated to return for Season 3 later this year.

Come back with adult kids demanding the apartment back.
Maybe Bunny dies and Trey is in NYC for the funeral and runs into Charlotte and apologizes.
Yes, I’d love to see Trey again!
Always hated Trey. He was never the one for Charlotte, we all knew that, too much of a mummy’s boy.
But love the actor.
You never know, seeing as how the girls have changed so much there practically unrecognisable in this show maybe Trey would be a totally different person too
I am surprised they haven’t crossed paths again, given he was a society guy and Charlotte spent so much of her time doing philanthropy. Honestly, I think it wouldcbe funny if they were on good terms and Harry was his divorce lawyer for the multiple divorces he had after Charlotte.
He did say he didn’t want to get married but got married to Charlotte because it was time, so it would be surprising if he went on to marry repeatedly knowing it wasn’t for him. They could still find ways to explain it.
I’d love to see Kyle MacLachlan reprise his role from The Good Wife as Josh Perotti on Elsbeth. His interactions with Carrie Preston’s Elsbeth Tascioni were so funny!
