VERMILLION — South Dakota women’s basketball head coach Carrie Eighmey is excited to announce the signing of transfer Jenna Hopp from South Dakota State. Hopp joins the Coyotes with two years of eligibility.
Hopp, a 5-11 guard hailing from Glenwood, Iowa, spent the past two years at South Dakota State, where she appeared in 52 games as a Jackrabbit. She averaged 3.5 points and 1.7 rebounds in 13 minutes per game at SDSU. During her freshman season, Hopp was named to the Summit League all-freshman team as she averaged 4.9 points and 2.4 rebounds in 17.6 minutes per game.
"We are thrilled to welcome Jenna to the Yote family!” Eighmey said. “Jenna is not only a talented basketball player, but she is also highly competitive and has always played with a super high motor! She’s a great slasher and cutter and isn’t afraid to do some of the dirty work that impacts winning. She also has playing experience which will make a huge impact on our program!"
Hopp went to two NCAA Tournaments with SDSU, including playing against Connecticut in the second round this season. In last year’s first round game against Utah, Hopp scored four points and added two steals and a block in 21 minutes. Her collegiate career-high for points sits at 12, reached twice her freshman season.
As a prep at Glenwood, Hopp scored 1,720 points and received seven all-state mentions in her career. She was the 2021 IBCA Class 4A Iowa Player of the Year and was on the all-state tournament team four times. During her senior year, Hopp averaged 23.7 points, 12.6 rebounds, 4.5 steals, and 3.0 assists.
Hopp was a National Honor Society student at Glenwood and was on the Summit League Honor Roll at SDSU.
