The Nordic Investment Bank (NIB) is lending 400 million euros for Lithuania’s military spending.
Finance Minister Rimantas Šadžius and NIB President and CEO André Küüsvek are expected to sign the loan agreement in Vilnius on Tuesday.
Šadžius said after meeting with André Küüsvek in Helsinki in March that NIB is a very important financial partner for the region and could contribute to defence investments in the long term.
For now, the minister said, the priority is to implement projects related to hosting Germany’s military brigade, establishing a national division, and developing Lithuania’s defence industry.
The sum amounts to about 0.5 percent of Lithuania’s annual GDP, which stood at 77.9 billion euros in 2024.
