6 arrested for raping minor in Jharkhand

Police said the minor, along with three other girls attending the wedding, went out to relieve herself when six men approached and started to molest them.

Six persons were arrested for allegedly kidnapping and raping a minor girl in Jharkhand’s Gumla district, police said Tuesday.

They were a part of the wedding procession that had arrived from Simdega district.

Police said the minor, along with three other girls attending the wedding, went out to relieve herself when six men approached and started to molest them.

“Three girls managed to escape, but the men took one minor girl into the forest and gangraped her. After the girl was unconscious they threw her into a bush in the forest,” said the SP, Gumla, Shambhu Kumar Singh.

After an FIR was registered by the victim’s father on Sunday, the police searched various locations and arrested all six accused on Monday. They were remanded in judicial custody.

The arrested accused were identified as Surendra Nagesia, Vimal Kumar and Sanju Ram from the Sursang police station area of Gumla district, and Arpan Roshan Soreng, Dinesh Tirkey alias Nitin and Amardeep Kullu, residents of the Pakartand police station area of Simdega district.

The girl has undergone a medical examination and the arrested men have confessed to their crime, police said.
