KAMPALA. He is not here to avenge Cape Verde’s 1-0 home loss to Uganda Cranes last year but the Islanders Portuguese coach Rui Aguas wants his team to win at all cost.
“That was a different moment (when Cape Verde fell to Geoffrey Sserunkuma’s goal in Praia).
“When Uganda beat Cape Verde, I wasn’t there so I can’t speak about it now. It is different history and I need better result,” he revealed upon touching down at Entebbe airport yesterday at 2pm aboard Emirates Airlines.
Before returning this year, Aguas had built an attacking Cape Verde side that wrote down a few upsets and he knows the task at hand against a Cranes side that made Namboole a dreaded fortress.
“We are quite confident and I know it is going to be a difficult game but we need to win, period. “We want to balance out team offensively and defensively and we hope to get better results,” he added.
Occupying the third spot in Group L with a paltry four points from four games, Cape Verde that lost 2-0 to Tanzania in their sojourn to East Africa know it’s a win or bust situation they are headed to.
“We have only four points but the good thing is that we have our chances (in the remaining two games against Uganda and bottom side Lesotho).
“I know it is difficult Uganda team with good coach but we shall try our best.” The 35-man contingent, led by Galatasaray forward Garry Mendes, are accommodated at Sheraton Hotel in Kampala and will have a feel of Namboole Stadium today.
