US President Joe Biden on Tuesday took a jibe at Donald Trump's Bibles while campaigning for the presidential polls in Florida.

Addressing a political gathering, Biden asked the people of Florida to hold Trump accountable for the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn the Roe v Wade judgement and the subsequent state-level abortion restrictions put in place by the Republican-led legislature.

Earlier this month, the Florida Supreme Court cleared the way for a Republican-backed law banning abortion after six weeks of pregnancy to take effect.

"He (Trump) described the Dobbs decision as a miracle. Maybe it's coming from that Bible he's trying to sell. I almost wanted to buy one just to see what the hell is in it," news agency Reuters quoted Biden as saying to a crowd of supporters.

In March this year, Trump urged his supporters to buy the "God Bless the USA Bible", which was inspired by country singer Lee Greenwood's patriotic ballad.

Ahead of the presidential polls, abortion has developed as a top issue with Democrats believing that harsh restrictions on abortion will result in the electorate supporting Biden.

Florida has a hefty 30 Electoral College votes and for a long time was a highly coveted battleground state, but Republicans have pulled away from Democrats there in recent years.

Trump won Florida in 2020 with 51.2 per cent of the vote compared with Biden's 47.9 per cent. In 2022, Republican Ron DeSantis won the governor's race in a landslide, with 59.4 per cent of the vote.
